...An Everyday Fashion Copycat

Okay, so you know how my sister's and I had talked about posting fashion stuff whenever we tried anything new or just wanted to show each other? Well, here's some more that I did.  I found pictures of this blog on my sisters' ipad, and I just fell in love with this girl's style. So I found her blog. You should check it out by clicking here.
Anyway, so I have this bad habit of loving the fashions that I cannot afford, simply because I'm a poor college student with a less-than-part-time job and just can't afford to go shopping all the time. Let alone going shopping to get the things that I really really like.  So...instead, when I find a cute blog like hers, I'll save the pictures, then go through them and try to see if I have anything within my wardrobe already that I could use to re-create a similar look. So I use the clothes that I have from normal, every day department stores instead of the high-class, expensive ones (even though that is truly where I would find my style exactly how I love it...)

So, on Tuesday,  this is the outfit I tried to copy.

However, this is Utah. In the winter. So it's cold! So I had to adjust it slightly to fit the weather, and also because I just didn't have exactly what she does. But this is what I wore to re-create it.
(Keep in mind that all of these pictures were taken at the end of the day,
so they're probably not the best- plus I'm not much of a model compared to her.)

She caught me laughing

I do love trees.

Outfit breakdown: Long-sleeve gray thermal: Anchor Blue,  cream knitted sweater: Old Navy, belt: Forever 21, stripped skirt: Papaya, cream heels: JCPenny

The next day, Wednesday, I tried to copy another one her outfits, but I didn't like how the pictures turned out so maybe I'll wear it again and take better pictures. Thursday I kinda just did my own thing. Looking at her pictures reminded me of some things I've had in the back of my closet for a while now that actually could have been used for some similar outfits like hers. But, I can't wear jeans to work, so I kinda just came up with this one on my own. Here it is.

Outfit breakdown: blouse: Kohl's (elle), cardigan: I honestly don't remember, gray pencil skirt: Forever 21, Belt: leftover fabric from my maxi skirt, gray tights: temporary gift from friend who is out of the country for the season, cream shoes: JCPenny.

For my hair, I separated the two sections in the front and held them to the side while I slightly backcombed the top section of my hair. Then I pulled my hair back into a simple twisted bun, still leaving the two front sections out. Once the bun was up, then I pulled back each section and wrapped it around the bun and pinning it in place, creating somewhat of a head-band look with my hair.

So those are my attempts to put some style in my life, so far. I just enjoy the fact that, while I might have expensive taste, I don't have to spend hundreds of dollars creating an outfit from the top name-brand stores- I can create my own, affordable style that has a similar affect. So, let me know what you think. Tips, suggestions, requests?  If you have an outfit you'd like to see me try to recreate, email it to me and I might just try it out! I find this fun, and it's started to give me a variety in my day-to-day wardrobe, even if  I do feel slightly awkward walking around campus so dressed up sometimes. It's so much easier to feel happy about many things in life when you feel pretty and confident in how you look that day. Looks are not everything, but one of the first things people will notice about you is how you present yourself, and it never hurst to present yourself at your best.  =)

...My Boredom...and weekend

I've been really bored today. I've done nothing but homework all day and I feel like I haven't really accomplished anything. Don't you hate those days?  So, what did I decide to do? Procrastinate and catch up on my blog! Yay  =)

So, last weekend was MLK Day, and we had a three-day weekend. You know what that means-St. George! But this time, Margeaux and Steven were going to be there too, so it was going to be par-tay!

Tom was not very happy...

So Bridget and I got there Friday night and we just chilled with Megan and Brady till Margeaux and Steven got there around 12:30 in the am.  Saturday was fun. We made breakfast together, played with the kids, I did some homework, lammmmeeee and around noon we decided to go out. Over the weekend, St. George was celebrating its 150th birthday, and they had lots of events going on throughout the weekend. Saturday afternoon, they were handing out free rootbeer floats.  Mmmmm nom nom nom.  Tom was sure loving that!  Soon after we got back, we decided to go climb some rocks.  These are not just some little sissy rocks-they were big desert rocks. And it was a lot of fun! There's this one spot called the crack that gets so small that you barely have enough room to climb up sideways, with your back on one rock and your face against another. Margeaux went up to check it out. She wouldn't climb it just because that's not her thing, but I wanted to try it. So I climbed up a little bit, but once it got to the really small part, it was dark, cold, and waaay too much like a cave. I can do heights, depths, climbs, whatever. But I cannot do caves. I don't know what it is, but they just scare the heck out of me! So I didn't end up climbing the whole thing. Actually, hardly any of it. haha That night we played the Wii Just Dance game which by the way is so much fun and then when the kids were in bed, us 'adults' played some more games.
Sunday we just played in the morning, went to church, which was
good as always, and then chilled the rest of the night. After church, we took some family pics since all four of us girls were together for the first time in a little over a year. That's crazy.  Then on Monday we just hung out in the morning, then went out to get some lunch, then we had to leave. But it was a great weekend and it was so nice to have us all together. Now, check out these pics!  =)

Look at this boy!

"Cheeeeese!"

Okay, I don't know why blogger is being dumb about my pictures, but I'm tired of messing with it so sorry it's not perfect. Here's the rest.

Sister picture. Hey, that kind of rhymes.  =)

Yup. That seems about right.
Well, that just about sums up my awesome MLK, three-day weekend, as well as my lame post that just seems so lame because lame school has drained every ounce of creative or interesting juice from my brain. Thanks school. I like you a lot.  Mmmmm...debatable sometimes...

...Becoming a Lady

What better way to start out a post than with Tom Jones?

Okay.

So, I grew up in a family of all girls, with the exception of father. You would think that at least one of us would be a girly-girl or know how to dress up, do different hairstyles and make-up for different occasions, and that we would generally dress classy and nice. Ummm....not quite.  While I have learned over the years, and I have thrown out all of my t-shirts leaving me with a closet of nice clothes so that I have to dress nicely, which I don't mind because it is my style and while now I do consider myself fairly girly now, compared to even my high school years, none of us really know how to do our make up or hair all fancily for a nice night out or random things like that.

Over Christmas break, I was talking with my sister about it, and she had said that she wants to try some things out and post them on her blog. So we decided to do it together. It's kind of just a fun little thing where, if we try a new hairstyle or outfit or way of doing our make up, we'll blog about it. Did it work? Did it not? Look at my pictures and tell me what you think, sort of thing. So now, we're not just going to be some tom-girls who go all of Christmas break wearing t-shirts and sweat pants which I actually did not do simply because I did not have any... but we are becoming ladies. Sophisticated, well-dressed, well rounded in our style ladies. Or, so we think.

On the first day of classes for winter semester, I wore this.
forgive us for not having a nice scenic place to take pictures yet...plus it was dark

earrings: Wet Seal, sweater:Old Navy, belt:Forever 21, Steve Madden Oxfords:DSW

And my hair looked like this.

You may have noticed that I did not label where my maxi skirt was from. That is because it came from the hands of my mother and I - we made it. If you'd like to make one just like it, go to this blog, which gives a step by step tutorial. This lady knows what she's doing. It was a little difficult at first to have to make our own pattern, but it was fairly simple to make this one and I love it. Apparently so do other girls on campus because after I crossed the street from my apartment and took only a few steps onto campus, I passed a girl who said, "I just love your outfit. I saw you on the other side of the street and I just thought you looked so cute." Well thanks, random girl who is also looking adorable! You just made my day! What a great way to start out a new semester.  :)

So now you get to tell me what you think. Yay or Nay? Likes or dislikes? Suggestions? Comments? Anything. And if you have any styles or anything you enjoy doing that you'd like to share, do tell and I might just try and it out and blog about it! Or if you're wondering how I completed any part of this outfit, I can tell you that too.  In the mean time, enjoy these other pictures that we took.

we were blasting Justin Bieber while we took these...Bridget caught me dancing...

And this is just cute. Right...?
